Privacy Policy
Effective June 1, 2026 ยท Operated by Zach Flanders
Ringo is a children's phone service. We take privacy seriously โ especially because this service is used by kids and families. This policy explains what we collect, why, how we protect it, and what rights you have.
Who this policy applies to
This policy applies to parents and guardians who create accounts on Ringo. Children use the physical phone but do not have accounts and do not interact with this website. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children.
What we collect and why
- Parent account: your email address and name, used to authenticate you and communicate with you about your account.
- Household name: a label for your household, used in the parent dashboard.
- Physical address: collected for E911 emergency service registration only. Not used for any other purpose.
- Approved contacts: names and phone numbers of people your child can call and receive calls from. Used to enforce the allowlist in real time on every call.
- Call logs: direction (in/out), phone numbers, call duration, timestamp, and whether the call was blocked. Used to give you visibility into your child's call activity.
- Voicemail recordings: audio files and metadata (caller number, duration, timestamp). Used to deliver voice messages to your household.
- Waitlist information: name, email, and optional location, collected when you sign up for the waitlist. Used only to contact you about Ringo availability.
We do not collect browsing history, location data, advertising identifiers, or any information from the child's use of the physical phone beyond what is listed above.
How long we keep your data
- Call logs: automatically deleted after 1 year.
- Voicemails: kept until you delete them from the parent dashboard.
- All other account data: kept until you close your account.
- Waitlist: kept until you request removal by emailing us.
How we protect your data
- All data in transit between your browser and our servers is encrypted with TLS (HTTPS).
- Personal information stored in our database โ including phone numbers, contact names, and your address โ is encrypted at rest using AES-128 encryption.
- Voicemail audio files are encrypted at rest using AES-128 encryption with a unique per-household key.
- SIP credentials used to connect your phone device are encrypted in our database.
- We do not store payment card numbers. Card processing is handled entirely by Stripe.
Who else sees your data
We use a small number of third-party services to operate Ringo. Each receives only the data they need:
- VoIP.ms โ our phone carrier. Routes all calls and voicemails. Sees call metadata (numbers, duration) and audio in transit as a necessary part of delivering phone service.
- Resend โ email delivery. Receives your email address to send account-related emails (verification, password reset).
- DigitalOcean โ hosting provider. Stores our server and encrypted database. Does not have access to decryption keys.
- Stripe โ payment processing (when billing is active). We share only what Stripe needs to process payment; we never store card numbers ourselves.
We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with advertisers. We do not use your data to train AI models.
Children's privacy (COPPA)
Ringo is designed with children's privacy as a core requirement. Here is how we comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA):
- Children do not create accounts. All accounts belong to parents or guardians.
- We do not collect personal information directly from children.
- All data associated with your household is under your control as the account holder.
- You can download all your household's data or delete it entirely at any time from the Settings page.
- If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child, contact us at zachflanders@gmail.com and we will delete it promptly.
Your rights
- Download your data: Settings โ Download my data. Exports a JSON file of your contacts, call log, and voicemail metadata.
- Delete your data: Settings โ Close account. Permanently deletes all records and audio files associated with your household.
- Correct your data: You can update your household name, contacts, and account email at any time from the dashboard.
- Waitlist removal: Email zachflanders@gmail.com to be removed from the waitlist.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will notify you by email. Continued use of the service after notice constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
